Mattel Joins the Battle with BOOMco Blasters!

boomco

We don’t know too much about these yet, but at least we do know they’re coming thanks to reddit user /u/MarcusH26051 posting about the blasters being listed on the website of UK retailer Argos.

A little more digging revealed their website at www.boom-co.com, and a few videos that you can see there (blasterlabs found this link a little before me). In that video, they reveal that the blasters will be out fall of 2014, get about 70 feet of distance and use a special “Smart Stick” dart.

These darts appear to have an accordion-like neck behind the sticky head, which must help them cushion the hit and help them to stick better. What type of sticky substance is on the tips though, is anyone’s guess at this point. In the video they mostly shoot at targets that are included with each blaster, however the darts seem to stick to almost anything including clothing. It will be very interesting to see what these sticky darts are like, since we’ve seen similar things pop up in the past without much success commercially.

The larger two blasters also have a very interesting attachment on what looks like tactical rails: a pop-up target shield that allows you to ‘capture’ the darts and quickly re-use them. In addition to the blasters, the video reveals they’ll be releasing googles, bandoliers, and some kind of sticky ball to compliment the line of blasters.

We’ve reached out to some of our contacts for some more information, so check back for more information!

Extra Sledgefire Shells on HasbroToyShop.com

Sledgefire Shells

Sledgefire shells are now available on HasbroToyShop.com at $4.99 for a pack of 3. It’s something we’ve known about for a little while now thanks to BackyardLazers on Reddit, but I wanted to actually get some in my hands to give a full report.

As I had assumed, these are refill shells and not a retail package. They don’t come with darts and they don’t come in a normal package as you can see in the image below.

Shells in PackageIt’s a little disappointing that I can’t go to my local Target and purchase these right off the shelf. I think this is a positive sign though; that they may decide to offer them in a retail setting at some point in the future and/or they may develop more blasters that use this shell.

If you happen to own a Sledgefire, click on over to HasbroToyShop and pick some up!

Nerf TekStrike Unveiled

TekstrikeWe’ve just received word of this interesting licensed accessory for tactical rails! The Nerf TekStrike is from EyeSpyToys, a company that I’ve never heard of was apparently behind Launch n’ Attack (thanks Vas of F2A), and who’s company website is currently just showing off this accessory. Check out FoamFromAbove for some photos of the ToyFair Booth, and here’s the media information directly from EyeSpyToys:

Product Overview
Nerf TekStrike from EyeSpy Toys is an exciting new attachment for NERF blasters. With programmable Smart Darts, patented hit recognition technology and Bluetooth connectivity,  Nerf TekStrike turns the backyard into an advanced wireless playing field.

Key Features

  • The Nerf TekStrike Storm Shield attaches to any NERF blaster’s tactical rail and casts an invisible sensory grid over the entire playing field.
  • The Nerf TekStrike system works with Smart Darts, which each contain a programmable RFID chip.
  • Using Bluetooth and RFID technology, the Smart Darts can be tracked. As a dart hits the Storm Shield, the type of ammo it was hit with and who the shooter was, are recorded, displaying the damage on the built-in LCD screen and sending the appropriate HIT points to the shooter’s screen.

Game Play

  • To start playing, select an ammo type, wirelessly program the Smart Darts by swiping against the Nerf TekStrike Storm Shield and then begin firing at the opponents shield, instantaneously being alerted of successful shots.
  • The single player training mode allows individuals to improve their accuracy to get ready for the next battle.
  • When players are ready for advanced battle scenarios, they can use a smart phone or tablet as a remote base to unlock new weapons, track team stats and select mission objectives – all available with the free Nerf TekStrike app download.
  • For the full video game experience, players can attach a smart phone to the Nerf TekStrike Storm Shield for GPS tracking, blaster upgrades, accuracy stats and more!

Pricing / Availability

  • Suggested Retail Price: $24.99
  • Includes the Nerf TekStrike Storm Shield and 10 Smart Darts
  • Availability: August, 2014
  • Recommended Age: 8+

This, to me, is incredibly strange. Not that Hasbro is allowing Tactical rail accessories, we’ve known they might allow 3rd party licensing of tactical rail accessories for a little while now. But that it uses Bluetooth and RFID to track darts and sense them. This is basically a re-vamped, 3rd party dart tag device. And the weird thing is that it’s relatively inexpensive considering the technology involved.

Promo photos from UK ToyFair 2014 surface

01_Nerf_Rebelle Agent Bow_318776_001We managed to get a few new promo images and descriptions thanks to UK Nerf from the 2014 Toy Fair. Apparently he won’t be able to actually visit today, the first day of the fair, but he will be going tomorrow. So check out their site tomorrow for more up-to-date information.

Here’s the promotional description for the Nerf Rebelle Agent Bow:

Nerf Rebelle Agent Bow

(Ages 8 years & up/Approx. Retail Price: $29.99/Available: Fall 14)

The Nerf Rebelle Agent bow is perfect for high-profile missions that require accuracy and skill. Release the string and watch as the first ever Nerf Rebelle foam-dart arrows soar up to 85 feet across the sky making a whistling sound! For added precision, the Agent Bow features an electronic glowing red dot that provides better aiming accuracy with every shot.
First of all, let me say that the arrows are weird. They remind me quite a bit of Green Arrow’s quiver full of different arrows. I wish Hasbro had a DC License so they could make one for Green arrow with little fists on the end. But I’m sure we’ll see one for Hawkeye at some point in the future. I’m really glad we’re finally seeing some real bow-powered blasters come out. I hope that this makes the Rebelle line even more successful!
321253 Nerf Demolisher 1[2]
We’ve got a couple more images of blasters we’ve already seen. As you can see in the Demolisher image it appears as though the grenade launcher is indeed affixed to the blaster, and is not removable. This one actually looks to be an image of the production version too. We’ll have to wait for images or video to surface from the fair to be absolutely certain, but I think it’s not going to be able to come off. We can also see that the banana clip is not clear on either side, more than likely to hide the empty space in the bottom for the spring mechanism.A6563 Zombie Strike SlingFire[2] 326596 Nerf Thunderbow[2]

Nerf N-strike Elite Demolisher 2-in-1 unveiled

Nerf-nstrike-de

Another Monday, another blaster! Introducing the (prototype) N-strike Elite Demolisher 2-in-1! This blaster has been unveiled by Popular Mechanics in it’s prototype form, and it’s amazing!

They say that this is a prototype blaster, so we can’t be certain it’ll look exactly like this on release. But I would say that since they’re willing to show it, it’s pretty close to what we’ll get in our hands.

The article says that it uses Mega darts in the lower barrel, but as you can see they aren’t really Mega darts so their terminology is a bit off. I would think they’ll be called Mega Missiles or something similar to that. But without actually having it in my hands, who’s to say that it can’t fire Mega darts? The hole on that missile looks like it could be pretty close to the hole on the Mega darts.

Beyond the missiles we see a wonderful 10-round banana clip, which is something the fans have been wanting for a long time. Of course since this is N-Strike the clip will be backwards compatible with previous blasters, and previous clips will be compatible with this blaster. The Demolisher will retail for $39.99 and looks to be another flywheel blaster, which doesn’t make me mad as I’ve had good luck with flywheel blasters so far.

This blaster appears to be customizable up the wazoo with at least 3 tactical rails, a shoulder stock attachment point, and a barrel extension attachment point. There’s no word yet whether the under-slung missile launcher will be detachable but it really doesn’t appear to be from the picture above. The Popular Mechanics article does mention that there will be ‘laser sights for the foam sniper in you’ so we have yet another piece of information telling us we’ll see more accessories. That’s wicked sweet; I want.

This blaster will apparently be at ToyFair UK (probably ToyFair NY too), so we’ll get to see more of it then. Aside from the color, this has got to be the blaster that most of the NIC had been asking for. I know I can’t wait, it looks sweet! We’ll try to get more information and get back to you as soon as we can!

UPDATE: We just got the official description from Nerf:

NERF N-STRIKE ELITE DEMOLISHER 2-IN-1 Blaster

(Ages 8 years & up/Approx. Retail Price: $39.99/Available: Fall 14)

Take NERF shots to the next level with the 2-IN-1 blaster that dominates both MEGA and ELITE missions! The DEMOLISHER 2-IN-1 blaster is impressive in size and power firing up to 100 feet, featuring semi-motorized blasting, a 10 dart banana clip, and all new missiles.  Connect NERF scopes and lights to the blaster’s top Tactical Rail System and set sights on some of coolest NERF shots performed. Blaster includes two missiles and 10 N-STRIKE ELITE darts.  Four AA batteries required, not included. Available at most major retailers nationwide and HasbroToyShop.com.

The time has come: Elite Suction Darts Review

darts1

The first ever Nerf dart was the suction dart, so it is only fitting that each generation of Nerf ammo has a suction variety. The Elite Streamline ushered in a new generation of Nerf darts; and with it, I had thought (read: hoped) there would be a newly designed suction variety of some sort.

Recently, and without forewarning, Hasbro released this new Elite version of the suction dart; one that is made to work with any dart launching blaster, including clip system blasters! Yes, you’ve read that right! These new Universal Elite Suction Darts work quite well with any blaster that fires from clips. I had absolutely no issue firing from clip system blasters, even when using a mix of the Elite Streamline and Elite suction darts.

Zombie Strike Revealed!

hmrsht

It looks like we’ve finally gotten some solid information about the much talked about Zombie Strike line! First revealed on io9.com, the full line includes a number of new blasters!

I think this is a great sign of things to come, and will allow the Nerf team to experiment more with different designs of blasters. It seems to me that the N-Strike line only allows for the ‘tacticool’ style, and can hamper innovation a bit.

I can’t wait to get these in-hand! We’ll be sure to give you some more detailed opinions on these blasters once we’re able to digest the information a bit!

Check out the blaster descriptions after the break. Continue reading
