New Nerf N-Strike Elite Rhino-Fire!

N-Strike Elite Rhino-Fire blaster

Early this morning, Amazon Spain leaked a listing for a big bad blaster: the Rhino-Fire. After a good part of the day was spent pouring over the images, trying to see what kinds of features it may have, we received word from Nerf HQ. The Rhino fire is the ‘Mystery Blaster’ that was teased during the recent US blogger hangout with Nerf as well as during this year’s Nerf Event in New York (Check out our video here discussing the party with Foam From Above and ClickClickBamf)

Here’s the blaster blurb we received this afternoon:

NERF N-STRIKE ELITE RHINO-FIRE Blaster

(Ages 8 years & up/Approx. Retail Price: $99.99/Available: Fall 14)

Dominate the competition with the biggest, baddest NERF blaster yet! The N-STRIKE ELITE RHINO-FIRE blaster is the first fully automatic NERF blaster featuring rapid-fire, double barrel blasting, an amazing 50 dart capacity and two N-STRIKE ELITE dart drums, turning ordinary battles into extraordinary ones. The epic RHINO-FIRE blaster sends darts soaring impressive ELITE distances of up to 90 feet, and features both a front handle for mobility and tripod to ensure awesome accuracy. Includes 50 N-STRIKE ELITE darts.  Six “D” batteries required, not included. Available exclusively at Walmart.

This blaster is definitely large and looking to take charge! At pretty much $100 this bad boy is certainly the most expensive blaster to date, and that’s most likely a combination of being expensive to make as well as only being available in limited quantities at Walmart and select international retailers (TBD).

We could speculate on exactly how it operates, but we’ll definitely be getting one or two to show you exactly how later this year!

Giveaway Winners and The AFoN Show Episode 52: Fall ’14 Lowdown

Greetings Nerf Nation!  Deliberations are completed and after hours and hours of discussions we have finally found the winners of our Anniversary Giveaway.  We were quite impressed with the inspiring and well thought out entries you all sent in.  There were a few ideas that followed common themes which in all honestly we kinda expected, and it’s nice to know that so many of you share similar views as to the direction you would like to see Nerf go.  It took a while but two bright shiny entries floated to the top, here they are in no particular order:

The Elite Mega Pilum submitted by James Zhu- The concept for this single shot pump action Mega Dart launcher is simple and elegant in execution.  As seen in the picture below, “It has a trigger set very far back on the blaster and rear Nerf stock attachment point and comes with a faux wooden stock.”  But that’s only where the fun begins; the top tactical rail attachment is described as being inverted similar to the rail on the Titan that the Scout slides into.  “This allows instant integration of Pilum onto any tactical rail equipped blaster once its stock is removed.”  The Pilum took a popular discussion piece and gave us a practical application for a dual purpose blaster.

The Elite Mega Executioner submitted by Matthew Corrigan – One common thread between the entries was removable dart cylinders.  The concept for the Executioner goes one step further and truly makes that mechanic the focal point of the blaster.  “The barrel has a break in the end of the cylinder to have it pulled out. The break release button is located or the left side of the blaster.”  The cylinder holds 5 Mega Darts and can be slit out when empty after the break so you can reload with ease.

Congratulations Matthew and James!!  You should be receiving your Elite Pinpoint Sights (one for each of you) in good time!  We want to thank all of you for participating in our Giveaway.  We hope you had fun making your entries.

Introducing the Nerf Zombie Strike Doublestrike!!

News of this little guy surfaced yesterday on other sites, so we are a little slow on the draw, but here’s our first look at the Nerf Zombie Strike Doublestrike.download_20140204_120042

At first glance this blaster looks like a pretty typical two shot derringer pistol.  the Doublestrike’s unique feature is its hammer priming mechanism like that on the Hammer Shot.  It appears as though the Doublestrike will fire one dart at a time each of its two barrels, hinting at a dart sensing mechanism similar to the Elite Roughcut/Triad.  Size wise it appears to be somewhere between the N-Strike Scout/Zombie Strike Side Strike and the Elite Triad.  From the pic and description, we here at AFoN are excited for this addition to the Zombie Strike line.  Being able to truly dual wield blasters now, prime and fire one handed is proving to be a fantastic development in Nerf’s ever growing arsenal of awesome.

NERF ZOMBIE STRIKE DOUBLESTRIKE Blaster

(Ages 8 years & up/Approx. Retail Price: $9.99/Available: Fall 14)

When zombies are on the loose, double dart firing power is a necessity. Load two ZOMBIE STRIKE darts into the DOUBLESTRIKE blaster, pull back on the hammer mechanism, and fire to unleash both darts in a row! Blaster includes two ZOMBIE STRIKE darts. Available at most retailers nationwide and HasbroToyshop.com.

More will be said on this blaster as new info comes on the scene so stay tuned here for more info and opinions on your favorite new blasters.

Nerf Mega Thunderbow Announced!

e9c9e8793c0708d9_large

Announced via Mania.com as an exclusive, the Nerf N-Strike Mega Thunderbow is the latest blaster to be revealed for Fall of 2014. Though the pictures are computer generated, we can assure you that this is indeed a real blaster.

NERF N-STRIKE MEGA THUNDERBOW Toy

(Ages 8 years & up/Approx. Retail Price: $39.99/Available: Fall 14)

Awesome NERF MEGA performance transitions from blaster to bow with the addition of the N-STRIKE MEGA THUNDERBOW toy. The bow’s dynamic arms and traditional pull back system can fire five NERF MEGA whistler darts in a row up to an amazing 100 feet.  Includes 10 MEGA Whistler darts and holds up to five NERF MEGA darts at a time. Available at most major retailers nationwide and HasbroToyshop.com

It appears as though drawing the string back pulls the arms back, and fires the bow much like a Snapfire/Crossfire combo. I have to be honest and say that I’m apprehensive about this blaster, because bow-type blasters in the past haven’t had the best performance. But I’ll reserve judgement until I’m able to get my hands on it and see whether it can really get close to 100 feet like it claims.

I’m certain that we haven’t seen anything yet. There are more blasters to be revealed in the coming months, including this year’s ‘big bad blaster’ like the Centurion, Hail-Fire, and Stampede of years past. Check back for information

Nerf MEGA Summer Bash Event Teaser

WP_20130627_010

Hey there Nerf Nation!  Mr. S here.  I know I know, I haven’t exactly been posting on here lately.  Bad me :(  I thought I’d give you guys something to talk about in regards to last night’s awesome Media Event, the MEGA Summer Bash.  As you can probably guess from the name the focus of the event was on the Nerf MEGA Centurion.  It’s been all over the internet with mixed thoughts but, all things considered this blaster has some great points.

The size is impressive, at something like 6 inches longer than the LongShot.  The color scheme is sleek and pretty stylish (although Mr. K wishes it matched the Crimson series more).  The ammo has caused some controversy, but in my opinion it’s not too bad all things considered.  I would love to talk more about the Centurion but all things in due time.  We have a lot of info to cover and updates and detailed descriptions will be coming soon.  Please bear with us.

I also wanted to quickly touch base on the two blasters that kinda stole the show for many of the other guests in attendance.  There were four “shooting galleries” setup this year; obviously the Centurion, the Elite RapidStrike, the Vortex Revonix 360 and the much awaited Rebelle line of blasters.  It was a great opportunity to get our hands on these other blasters that we have been seeing online for quite some time now and run them through their paces.

The RapidStrike was the favorite of many attendees and for great reasons.  This blaster is pretty awesome.  Its has been compared to the Stampede here and there, and there are many similarities between these blasters.  I’m not going to say much right now but I will say a couple things to make the wait all the better.  First off, CLEAR CLIP!!  I’m not talking the half and half elite clips that we’ve seen before, or the see through orange clips either, this is a full on clear clear no color clear 18 round clip.  It looks pretty sweet!  Second, it is full auto and does fire faster than the Stampete.  No burst fire, and Slam Fire functionality is still faster, but for what it is, the RapidStrike has what people want.

My personal favorite of the show was the Revonix 360.  I am a huge fan of the Vortex line, with the Pyragon at the top of the list.  The Revoinx has the potential to knock the king from its thrown.  I wasn’t so much paying attention to how many discs the Revonix can hold, but it has a sufficient capacity for my wants.  The main feature I wanted to mention is something that has been mentioned before, but is so much cooler having actually used it.  I’m talking about the ability to reload on the fly.  This is such an interesting feature for a large capacity Vortex blaster.  It is actually really easy to reload and you can do it really fast, one thing to note is that the blaster revolves the cylinder after every shot so if you’re out, don’t fill up one full “clip” in the hopes of getting to unload it all at once (personal experience).

I’m only going to touch briefly on the Rebelle line.  We have so much info to go through regarding this line of blasters specifically designed for girls.  The concept is solid, and it’s good to see Nerf branching out and shaking hands with the clamoring female fans who wanted something more marketed for them.  The Rebelle line has some great offerings.  We had a chance to try out the HeartBreaker Bow and the Guardian Crossbow.  I have so many comments about this line, but that’ll wait for now to take up its own separate article.  Don’t worry gals, it’s not gonna be a hate fest :)

The last piece of information I’m going to leave you with involves a blaster that we posted about recently.  The Elite Spectre has been confirmed to be coming stateside!!  We are unsure as to the when, but we have information that it will be the second exclusive to grace the shelves of Walmart.  We are so looking forward to the chance to see this guy close up.

So there you have it, a teaser of awesome things to come.  There are so many awesome things we want to talk about, so stay tuned for an episode of The AFoN show with all the great awesomeness!

Our flight was cancelled, so we have to deal with that, so our updates will be delayed at least until we figure things out. Sorry!

Elite Spectre Update

IMG_6084

We still don’t have any information as to the release of the Elite Spectre in the us, but thanks to AwesomeNerfer1999 of the Awesomely Nerf blog, we have more information about the blaster itself. It appears as though the blaster has had more than just a paint job and a power upgrade; the shell of the blaster appears to have been slightly redesigned to accommodate the internal changes.

Since we don’t have one ourselves, check out AwesomeNerfer1999’s unboxing article and review video:

Batman “The Dark Knight Rises” Triple Barrel Grapnel Blaster Review

It’s time for another review from outside the world of Nerf.  With the release of the movie The Dark Knight Rises coming to theaters soon, it’s probably time we talk about the Triple Barrel Grapnel Blaster that is in stores now.

This is the second Mattel Batman Dart blaster I’ve had the opportunity to own and test out, and the quality isn’t all that bad.  As far as plastic goes, the overall construction is solid, although the trigger feels a little loose especially when not primed.  The dart construction(comes with 3) is very similar to a Nerf Sonic dart.  Quality of foam in the body of the dart is pretty good, however the tip seems to b glued onto the body in a way that could lead to falling off after time. Light it Up series Lumitron Review

Hey guess what, it’s the Lumitron!  Nerf added a new blaster to the Light it Up series recently, and while it’s basically a repaint of the Vortex Praxis it has those wonderful little features that set it apart from its darker green counterpart.

Let’s talk about the paint on the Lumitron first, because this is the only real thing that sets the Lumitron apart from the Praxis.  I’m going to call this new almost neon green color shared by the Lumitron and Rayven “Light it Up Green”, I like the hue more than the darker alien green of the Vortex series and think it looks really sharp on the Lumitron.
